Fallen Knights

Years ago Desert Snow began referring to the officers who protect our communities as "Knights of the Black Asphalt." Unfortunately, protecting these communities sometimes comes at a steep price. For this reason it is important for us to take a few moments every now and then to remember those who have paid that price and sacrificed their lives while fighting the good fight. These "Fallen Knights" shall never be forgotten!

The Desert Snow "Gold Shield" was developed to honor the memories of active Desert Snow / Black Asphalt website members killed in the line of duty. Family members of each Gold Shield recipient will receive a plaque with the following inscription:

With The Distinguished Gold Shield.

(Title and Name of Recipient)

This Shield Will Always Represent The Barrier Made By

The Desert Snow "Silver Shield" was developed to recognize the bravery of active Desert Snow / Black Asphalt website members who are seriously injured in the line of duty while pursuing the criminal element. Silver Shield recipients will receive a plaque with the following inscription:

While on a traffic stop, Officer Diegel was hit by his unit which was pushed into him by a drunk driver. He is recovering.

Officer Chris Hensley

Hattiesburg Police Department, Mississippi

June 20, 2012

Officer Hensley was struck by another vehicle while on a traffic stop. He has recovered. His K-9 "Nero" was killed

Deputy Edward Slafky

Randolph County Sheriff's Office

Asheboro, North Carolina

August 27, 2012

Deputy Slafky was shot in the line of duty and is recovering.

October 15, 2012

Sgt. Chavez was hit head on by another car while on duty. He is now back at work

Trooper Steen was struck by a suspect's vehicle after a pursuit. He is recovering

Mark Chesnut
Metropolitan Nashville Police Department
Details: On June 25, 2009 Sergeant Mark Chesnut was shot and critically wounded by a prison escapee and his accomplice during a traffic stop on I-40. Sergeant Chesnut has returned to duty but is on a long road to a full recovery.

Sergeant Scott Reneau

Tunnel Hill Police Department

September 9, 2008

Details: On September 9, 2008, Sgt. Scott Reneau was on a traffic stop when he was hit by a tractor-trailer. After many surgeries to repair his injuries, he is back on duty.

Officer John Taylor

Roanoke Rapids Police Department, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Details: On November 17, 2011 Officer Taylor was shot 4 times during a traffic stop. He has since recovered.

Trooper Dwayne Stanford

Tennessee Highway Patrol

Details: Officer Stanford was shot in the line of duty while on a traffic stop. He has since recovered from his injuries.
